Dr. Keith Smith’s Speech at the 2014 FMMA Annual Conference | Free Market Medical Association

FMMA3“I have come to the conclusion that it is the ethical and moral obligation of the seller of health care services to provide the prospective buyer a price in advance of the provision of the service. Any other way of conducting medical business affairs has the feel and characteristics of a bait and switch. While many maintain that the provision of advance pricing is impossible, those of you gathered here now know without a doubt that this claim of impossibility is a lie, an excuse to fleece the buyer and an excuse that is no longer credible.”

  1. I was fortunate enough to attend this historic inaugural event that I predict will eventually appear on the time-line that marks a transformation point in our national discussion of healthcare payment reform. I am all the more convinced still that it is NOT a failure of the free market, but the near total absence of a normally functioning free market, that is responsible for most of the price inflation and economic perversion we experience in healthcare today.
