So the Obama administration had projected newly eligible Medicaid enrollees would cost about $50 less than other Medicaid-enrolled adults, but they actually cost nearly $1,000 more.  Nice.

  1. One of the justifications for trying to “cover” as many as possible under the ACA was to relieve society of the burden of the uncompensated care racked up by the uninsured. For this to work private citizens (or their employers) must pay their own way. But that is not what has happened under ACA. The majority of those in the ACA exchanges get significant subsidies and a significant number of the newly covered are done so by Medicaid. Thus most of the “coverage” still involves tax payer money in form of Medicaid or subsidies. But utilization statistics from the Oregon study indicate that it is NOT the temporarily/voluntarily uninsured (the largest percentage of uninsured) that actually rack up unpaid bills. The majority of bankruptcies occur in those with health insurance.
